The Week of September 4th through 7th, 2018

Reading/ELA:
  • Asking Questions when reading a text.
  • We will continue our vocabulary focus.  Hopefully you will start hearing these words added to their vocabulary!  
    • Our first words will be:  fragile, research, defend, specific, pledge.  
    • Our WOW word will be: rediscover
  • Building our stamina in reading continuously for at least 15 minutes without talking or leaving our spot.  The kids made it 15 minutes already!! 
Math:
  • Starting our new math curriculum--enVision Math!  
  • This week our lesson focus will be on Multiplication as Repeated Addition.  
  • Homework will be on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings. Homework is due the following morning. Five points will be added in the gradebook for homework returned and completed.  
Science:
  • Scientific Process:  Focusing on identifying the problem, finding a possible solution, trying to solve with the materials provided and solving the problem.  
Chromebooks:  Learning about the different education programs that are linked on our class  blog page and practicing math and ELA standards for third grade.

Character Education Focus:  
  • Our September focus will be on TRUSTWORTHINESS. 
 Trustworthiness is 
  • Being reliable; do what you say you’ll do
  • Having the courage to do the right thing
  • Being loyal; stand by your friends
  • Being honest
  • Not deceiving, cheating or stealing

Homework:
  • Math homework on Tuesday, September 4th,Wednesday, September 5th, and Thursday, September 6th.
  • Reading homework-20 minutes minimum per evening.  Put minutes on reading calendar which will be due the first week of October.  Reading homework requirement is 400 minutes per month for 100% in grade book.  Starting with the October reading calendar, students who read at least 400 minutes for the month and turn it in the first week of November will receive a free personal pizza coupon for Pizza Hut in addition to their grade.  
Dates to remember:
  • Friday, September 7th:  Scholastic Book orders due.
  • Friday, September 7th:  True Blue Character Day!  Dress in blue to participate.
  • Friday, September 14th:  Picture Day!
  • September 21st:  NO SCHOOL for Teacher In-service
  • October 15th through 19th:  NO SCHOOL for Fall Break
