The Week of April 3rd through 6th, 2018

Spelling: List #13:  Homophones

**The spelling words are a part of homework to practice writing and spelling them aloud.
Test for List #13 will be in two weeks on Thursday, April 12th.

Reading and Language Arts:
  •  Article of the Day using Readworks reading program.  
  • Continue reading our class chapter book, Trumpet of the Swan, by E.B. White.  We will use a comprehension and vocabulary packet to go with our reading.  
  • Focusing on writing with details that stick to one topic.
  • Book Study:  Students chose a book at their reading level and are completing a summary log daily concluding with a book poster and presentation to the class.  This assignment will start on Monday, March 5th and the poster and presentation will be due the week of April 3rd-6th.  


Math:

  • Tuesday, 4/3/18:
    • Going over geometric shapes and symmetry.
  • Thursday, 4/5/18:
    • Working on data and reading graphs for information.
  • Homework listed under homework title below.

Science:  Sprout House:  Each table will create a "greenhouse" to observe the process of water evaporation as well as growing some plants from seeds!

Art:  Experiencing the art form of Texture and focusing on artist, Katsushika Hokusai.

Character Trait:  Caring

Homework:
  • Math homework:  I will be sending home a page of multiplication problems to work on each night:  Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.
  • Practice Spelling words from List #13 each night.
  • Flashcards: practice multiplication facts using flashcards or writing down all of the facts from the 1's family through the 12's for practice.
  • 20 minutes of reading.

Dates to Remember: 
  • No School:  Friday, April 13th for grading.

  • Book Study:  Students chose a book at their reading level and are completing a summary log daily concluding with a book poster and presentation to the class.  This assignment will start on Monday, March 5th and the poster and presentation will be due the week of April 3rd-6th.

  • Lesson 14:  Find areas by decomposing into rectangles or completing composite figures to form rectangles.

  • We have finished Ralph S. Mouse and will take a comprehension test using their reading packet as an open book test.
  • We are starting our next novel, Trumpet of the Swan, by E.B. White.  We will use a comprehension and vocabulary packet to go with our reading.  
  • Focusing on Main Idea.  
  • Starting our Book Study:  Students will choose a book at their reading level and complete a summary log daily concluding with a book poster and presentation to the class.  This assignment will start on Monday, March 5th and the poster and presentation will be due the week of April 3rd-6th.  

Math:
  • Area of a rectangle:  using unit squares to decipher the area of a rectangle.
    • Homework on Monday evening.
  • Using multiplication to find area.
    • Homework on Tuesday evening.
