This Week in Third Grade~~December 16th through 20th, 2019

Please read through our plans for this week, as well as, homework information/due dates and dates to remember.

Spelling:  No Spelling this week

ELA:  English Language Arts:
  • Grammar--Holiday practice with parts of speech and possessive nouns.
  • Reading--Ask and Answer Questions in Fiction text
  • Finishing Mouse and the Motorcycle triorama project.
  • Vocabulary-- infinite, faint, urgent, fret, and disperse.  We will cover 5 vocabulary words in class. WOW Word:  toughen. The WOW words are focusing on prefixes and suffixes.  
  • Writing-- Work on developing a piece of writing focusing on personal narratives.  

Math:
  • We have started our enVision Math program.  It is common for the homework to take a little longer in the beginning as students get used to the program, flow and the style of questioning. Homework will be on every Tuesday and Thursday and is due the following day for 5 points in the gradebook.  Homework is a very important part of learning and retaining all that they are learning in class.  
  • Holiday Math Review
  • Homework on Tuesday only:  fact families and skip counting.
Science:
  • STEAM project: Elf challenge
Technology: 
  • Students will become familiar with the different websites we will use in class and how to find the links on our class blog page.  
  • Students will work on typing skills.
Snack:
  • We will stop each morning at 10:00 am to have a snack since our lunch is so late in the afternoon (12:38 pm) Please help your 3rd grader remember to grab a snack so they will be able to continue their focus.  
Homework:
  • Reading Homework (This is for a grade):
    • December Reading calendars were sent home the first week of December. 400 minutes for the month will be worth 100%. 
    • **November Reading Calendar due now. Parent signature required. If you have misplaced the calendar a note with how many minutes your child read with your signature or an email from you will work.
  • Math Homework:  (This is for a grade)
    • Tuesday, December 17th:  Homework on Fact Families and Skip Counting. Due Wednesday 12/18/19.
    • Thursday, December 19th:  No homework
  • Spelling Homework:
    • No Spelling this week.
  • Specials: 
    • Music and PE will be meeting more than once a week.  The schedule is to the right, on our class blog page.  Please encourage your child to dress in appropriate clothing and shoes for the PE days. 
Dates to Remember:
  • Class Christmas party on Wednesday, December 18th, from  1:00 pm to 2:30 pm.  
  • Christmas Break will be from December 21st through January 5th, 2020.

Spelling test will be on Thursday, Dec 12th this week.  Spelling City assignments are due by Sunday 12/8/19

  • Mouse and the Motorcycle triorama project.
  • Vocabulary-- smudge, disgruntled, imitate, extravagant and witty.  We will cover 5 vocabulary words in class. WOW Word:  tricycle. The WOW words are focusing on prefixes and suffixes.  
  • Writing-- Work on developing a piece of writing focusing on personal narratives.

  • Friday, December 6th:  Topic 3 Assessment
Science:
  • Animals through Time:  Why do dogs wag their tails?
