This Week in Third Grade~~October 28th through November 1st, 2019

Please read through our plans for this week, as well as, homework information/due dates and dates to remember.

Spelling:  List #C7 /oi/

Spelling Words:   toys     annoy     point     noise     boy     broil     joyful     join     soil     destroy     loyal     avoid     voyage     coins     voice
Review Words:  fruit     rescue     computer
Challenge Words:  enjoyable     poisonous
Need to Know Words:   joint     boil     cowboy     choice     enjoy


ELA:  English Language Arts:

  • Grammar- -Common and Proper Nouns
  • Reading--Context Clues in Fiction:  Review and end of unit
  • Vocabulary-- gradually, merchant, essential, fortunate, and immense. WOW Word- submarine.   We will cover 5 vocabulary words in class.  The WOW words are focusing on prefixes and suffixes.  
  • Writing-- Work on developing a piece of writing focusing on personal narratives.  

Math:

  • We have started our enVision Math program.  It is common for the homework to take a little longer in the beginning as students get used to the program, flow and the style of questioning. Homework will be on every Tuesday and Thursday and is due the following day for 5 points in the gradebook.  Homework is a very important part of learning and retaining all that they are learning in class.  
  • Tuesday, October 29th:  End Topic 2 Review for unit test.  **Homework due Wednesday.
  • Thursday, October 31st:  Working on multiplication facts  *No Homework
Science:
  • Candy Corn Science
Technology: 
  • Students will become familiar with the different websites we will use in class and how to find the links on our class blog page.  
  • Students will work on typing skills.
Snack:
  • We will stop each morning at 10:00 am to have a snack since our lunch is so late in the afternoon (12:38 pm) Please help your 3rd grader remember to grab a snack so they will be able to continue their focus.  
Homework:
  • Reading Homework (This is for a grade):
    • I sent home the October calendar on Monday 9/30/19. **At the end of the month, the calendar will need to have a parent signature and total of minutes read and students need to turn it in with 5 days after the month ends.  Third grade students are required to read at least 400 minutes a month which works out to be about 20 minutes nightly for 20 days a month minimum.  This also goes in the grade book.

    • Music and PE will be meeting more than once a week.  The schedule is to the right, on our class blog page.  Please encourage your child to dress in appropriate clothing and shoes for the PE days. 
Dates to Remember:
  • Thursday, October 31:  School-wide book celebration.  Book--Peter Pan:  Students will be allowed to dress up as a character from the book Peter Pan.  No masks and no weapons including toy weapons. 
  • Friday, November 1st:  Pajama Day!!
  • Friday, November 8th:  Parent Teacher Conferences (scheduled and drop in times will be determined closer to the date.

This Week in Third Grade~~October 14th through 17th, 2019

Spelling:  No Spelling List or test this week.  We will do some games with words from our last 6 lists in class.



ELA:  English Language Arts:

  • Grammar- - Unit One Grammar Review and Test
  • Reading--Context Clues in Fiction:  Finishing the unit
  • Vocabulary--acquire, thesis, loathe, rapidly, and convey. WOW Word- unsuccessful.   We will cover 5 vocabulary words in class.  The WOW words are focusing on prefixes and suffixes.  
  • Writing-- Work on developing a piece of writing focusing on personal narratives.  

Math:

  • We have started our enVision Math program.  It is common for the homework to take a little longer in the beginning as students get used to the program, flow and the style of questioning.   • Tuesday, October 15th:   Lesson 2.5  Multiplication Facts: 0,1, 2, 5, 9, and 10.  **Homework due Wednesday.
  • Thursday, October 17th:  Fact Fluency test.  *No Homework
Science:
  • STEM:  Room on a Broom activity.

**Test this week on Friday the 11th.


**Students who score less than 70% on a final spelling list will have the opportunity to improve their grade up to 85% by writing complete sentences using the words they missed on the test.  Once it is turned in I can change the grade.



**Students have access to Spelling City to practice their spelling words at home if they would like to.  We use Spelling City in the classroom to practice our words as well.  I will use the assigned activities as a grade of completion, meaning they will receive 20 points for each activity completed.  There are 5 activities assigned for each list.
