The Week of October 29th through November 2nd2018

Spelling: List #8 /ow/

**Test will be on Thursday, November 1st.  Spelling tests will be the last day of the school week and a new list will be sent home on Fridays/last day of the week.  Students who pass the pretest on Monday with 100% will not have to take the test at the end of the week.

Reading/ELA:

  • Focusing on pronouns
  • Working on writing:  How authors use dialogue in their personal narratives.
  • Reading focus:  Asking and Answering Questions
  • Vocabulary focus:
    • Our words this week are: literal,  dialogue,  rival,  passion,  claim.
    • Our WOW word will be: believable 
    • We will wrap up Robin Hood as our school-wide book selection for October with a movie comparison.  Students will be able to dress up as characters from the book, Robin Hood on October 31st! Don't be afraid to be creative! 
Math:
  • This week we will be continuing using distributive property combined with focusing on 4, 6, and 7 as factors.
  • Monday:  Lesson 3-3  Focusing on 4 as a factor.
  • Wednesday:  Lesson 3-4 Focusing on 6 & 7 as factors.
  • Homework will be on Monday and Wednesday evenings. Homework is due the following morning. Five points will be added in the grade book for homework returned and completed.  Students who forget their homework can log on to enVision which is a link on the right side of this blog page. The homework that would have been on the page is on the website.  I will list the lesson number below under homework.   
Science:
  • Growth Mindset

Character Education Focus:  
  • Our October Character focus is on Respect.
Respect is caring enough about others’ feelings to think before you act.

Homework:
  • Math homework 
    • Monday, Oct 29th: Lesson 3-3 Apply properties: 4 as a factor.
    • Wednesday, Oct 31st: Lesson 3-4 Apply properties:  6 & 7 as factors.
  • Spelling words:  Practice this weeks spelling words for our test at the end of the week.
  • Reading homework-20 minutes minimum per evening.  Put minutes on reading calendar which will be due the first week of October.  Reading homework requirement is 400 minutes per month for 100% in grade book.  Starting with the October reading calendar, students who read at least 400 minutes for the month and turn it in the first week of November will receive a free personal pizza coupon for Pizza Hut in addition to their grade.
  • October reading calendars due on Thursday, November 1st.  
Dates to remember:
  • October 24th:  End of 1st quarter.
  • October 29th:  Harvest Festival from 6:30-7:30 pm. (Kiss the Pig @7:30 pm.   
  • October 31st:  Book Celebration based on the classic, Robin Hood.  We will be enjoying the Disney version of Robin Hood and enjoying any treats we have.  If you would like to send in treats for the class please let me know.  Thank you ! 
  • November 2nd: Parent Teacher Conferences from 8 am to 7 pm. NO SCHOOL FOR STUDENTS. I sent the sign up email on Friday, Oct. 26th. If you have not signed up for time please do so as soon as you can.  If you have any problems signing up please let me know.

  • Vocabulary focus:
    • Our words this week are: redundant, gesture,  acknowledge, clutch, persevere..
    • Our WOW word will be: silently.
    • We will wrap up Robin Hood as our school-wide book selection for October.  Students will be able to dress up as characters from the book, Robin Hood on October 31st! Don't be afraid to be creative! 
Math:
  • This week we will be learning about the distributive property of multiplication and 3 as a factor, multiples of 3.
