Week of August 27th through 30th, 2018

We had a great first week!! This class is excited to learn and work together!  It's going to be a wonderful year!!

Spelling: List #1 Long and Short A

Review words:  ramp     crane     flame 
Challenge words:  magical      station  

**Test will be on Friday, September 7th which is in two weeks.

Reading and Grammar:

• We are enjoying the book Sideways Stories From Wayside School during teacher read aloud time.
• We have started talking about simple and strong questions to ask during reading text.
• We will start our vocabulary focus.  Hopefully you will start hearing these words added to their vocabulary!  
• Our first words will be:  fragile, research, defend, specific, pledge.  
• Our WOW word will be: rediscover
• Building our stamina in reading continuously for at least 15 minutes without talking or leaving our spot.  The kids made it 11 minutes already!! 

Math

• We are going to begin our math unit on Rounding  to nearest 10 and 100.
• Students will have a page of math homework on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday.

Science:  

• We did our first Mystery Science on Friday and thought about what scientist do.  We formulated questions we could ask if we were wondering about something.

Homework: 

• Math homework on rounding on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.  Homework is due the following day.  
• Practicing spelling words from list 1.  Test will be in two weeks.

Dates to remember:

• Friday, August 31st:  NO SCHOOL
• Monday, September 3rd:  NO SCHOOL
• September 21st:  NO SCHOOL for Teacher In-service
• October 15th through 19th:  NO SCHOOL for Fall Break
