  • Spelling Test will be on Friday, December 8th.
Reading and Language Arts:
  • Starting our new chapter book, Mouse and the Motorcycle.
  • Grammar Rule 10:  A possessive noun tells who or what owns something.  For example:  Kate's backpack, the bees' hive or the men's jackets.
  • Reading skill focus:  inference, prediction, details and conclusions.
Math:  We are starting a new unit focusing on multiplication of 6-10.
  • Lesson 1:  Study commutativity to find known facts of 6, 7, 8, and 9.
    • Using a multiplication table to find commutative property.
    • Working with factors to find the product.
    • Homework on Monday night
  • Lesson 2:  Apply the distributive and commutative properties to relate multiplication facts 5 x n + n to 6 x n and n x 6 where n is the size of the unit.
    • Example:  7 fives has the same answer as 3 sevens + 2 sevens. So, 7 x 5 = 35 as does 3 x 7 + 2 x 7 = 21 + 14 = 35
    • Breaking large multiplication sentences down to smaller equations to solve the large number equation.
    • Homework on Tuesday night.
Science:
  • Day, Night and Earth's Rotations.
    • Why does the sun rise and set?
    • Who set the first clock?
Social Studies:
  • Map skills using the compass rose and longitude and latitude lines.
Homework:
  • November Reading Calendar due Friday, December 1st.  Remember that 400 minutes a month or more receives full credit (100%) in the grade book.
  • Math homework on Monday night (lesson 1) and Tuesday night (lesson 2).
  • Practice Spelling words from List #6 Silent E--lists will be sent home on Monday, November 27th and the test will be in two weeks on Friday, December 8th.  There is also a list at the top of this blog post.
  • We will be doing IXL in class so students will not be assigned IXL for homework but I encourage students to do one to two activities in Math and Language Arts on the days we do not have paper homework to continue practicing their important third grade skills.
****Please remind your child to bring a snack to have at our morning break (10:30 am) since they don't eat lunch until 1:00 pm.
