Math:
- The spelling test for list #4 will be on this Friday, October 28th.
- CCSS-Applying the distributive property to decompose units, solving two step word problems involving all four operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication and division) and assessing the reasonableness of answers (Does the answer make sense? How do we know?). For example:
- Mountain Math- Multiple third grade math functions and practice.
Language:
- DOL (Daily Oral Language)- assessing sentences and changing errors in punctuation, capitalization, spelling and grammar.
Reading:
- We are finishing the reading of our school-wide book celebration of The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe. We will work on vocabulary and comprehension as we read through the book. On October 31st, we will celebrate this book by watching the cartoon version of the movie and dressing up as any character from the book.
Homework:
- We will have paper math homework on Tuesday and Thursday. Your child receives 5 points for working on their homework and turning it in at the beginning of the next day.
- Reading nightly for 20 minutes or at least 400 minutes for the month of October. Reading calendars for October are due on November 1st.
- IXL Math homework on Monday and Wednesday. At least 20 minutes of third grade math practice before moving on to any other IXL practice.
Date to Remember:
Book Celebration: Monday, October 31st we will celebrate finishing our school novel study of The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe! We will watch the animated movie version and enjoy some treats. If you would like to send in a treat for the kids to enjoy during the movie that would be wonderful and very appreciated.
Here is a list of suggested items:
- paper plates napkins juice boxes or juice cookies cheese and crackers other treats.
Tuesday: Pizza orders due for Wednesday lunch. (The senior class sells pizza every week to raise money for their class trip at the end of the year. Students can purchase a slice of cheese or pepperoni for $1 each. We collect the orders and money on Tuesdays and the students receive their pizza at their lunch time on Wednesday. Students cannot purchase pizza on Wednesday.
Swimming at the YMCA this Friday, October 28th. We have a lot of women for help but could really use a man to help in the boys' bathroom if anyone can. We really appreciate the help! We have 5 lessons left.
Parent Teacher Conferences- Thank you to all of the parents who took the time to come in and visit with me about your wonderful children! If I did not meet with you yet, please contact me for a time so we can touch base quickly (10-15 minutes).
Reminder: Please remind your child to bring a snack each day, especially those eating hot lunch as we eat very late in our day at 12:40 pm. We stop each day at 10:20 am for a snack to keep ourselves fueled up for learning!
