This week in Third Grade:  October 19th through 23rd, 2015

Reading:  Continuing to read the "Jungle Book" and use our reading strategies to write responses in our reading journals.  Reading chapter books on their reading levels.  Working on comprehension and understanding a plot and sequence in a selected reading.

Language Arts:  Adjectives and Adverbs.  Correcting grammar mistakes in daily language. Practicing spelling words.

Spelling:  This week in spelling, students will be taking a spelling inventory to determine their spelling level.  A shorter list of spelling words will be sent home next week.

Math:  :  Math4Today:  Practicing rounding to nearest 10's and 100's, solving problems with three digit numbers using borrowing and carrying, story problems using addition and subtraction to find the missing piece, using graphs to find information using addition and subtraction.  Common Core Math:  Starting a new unit on time and distance measuring and including that information using tape diagrams.

Friday:  Enrichment Club, Chess and Art.  We will be learning about the art of "Torn Paper Collage" and will begin making our own!

Homework:  Students will have Math homework on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings.  It is so important for students to work on their homework and bring it with them the next day as we use it as a learning tool and go over it as a class the next day and it does not benefit students who have not attempted the work on their own first.  I appreciate the time you give to helping your child and the rest of the class be prepared for learning the next day!
Nightly reading and recording on October Calendar is also so important and fun!

Treats for the celebration:  We will be watching the Disney version of the Jungle Book in the afternoon and treats would be wonderful!  If anyone would like to send in treats for the class to enjoy that would be great!  If your child has an allergy to specific things it may be helpful to send them with something special they can enjoy.  I will let everyone know about any treats I am told are coming.  Thank you in advance for helping us make our celebration delicious and fun!

And Lastly...Conference Sign ups:  Parents should have received an email asking you to go to a link I provided to sign up for a 15 minute parent teacher conference on one of the days we are conferencing next week.  If you did not receive that email and link please let me know so I can get that information out to you.  The link will ask you to submit your child's name, your name and then to select one day and one time  that you could meet with me at the school to talk about your wonderful child.  I am really looking forward to meeting with everyone!  I love my class!!
