Please read through our plans for this week, as well as, homework information/due dates and dates to remember.
Spelling:
**The first spelling list will be sent home on Thursday 8/29/19. This list will be for the week of September 3rd through 6th. On Tuesday, 9/3 students will do a pretest on the first list words. Students who score 100% on the pretest won't have to take the test on Friday the 6th.
***Students will use Spelling City to practice spelling words. Once they have their login information they will be able to access this from home.
ELA: English Language Arts:
- Grammar- -Nouns
- Reading--Character Traits
- Vocabulary--fragile, research, defend, specific, pledge and WOW Word- rediscover. We will cover 5 vocabulary words in class. The WOW words are focusing on prefixes and suffixes.
- Writing--Introduction to Personal Narrative writing. Students will put together their Writing Journals and will work on a piece of writing to begin the unit.
Math:
- This week we will be doing some reviewing of addition and subtraction using single and double digits. Students will have homework on Tuesday and Thursday. Homework is do the following school day. 5 points is given for students who turn in their homework on time and this score goes in the grade book. These points add up quickly.
- We will start our enVision math program on September 3rd. Students will work on the concepts in class and will work on the same ones that evening at home. Homework will be on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Your child will need guidance to learn to complete these pages but will become familiar with the routine and will learn so much throughout the year.
Science:
- Students will create a lunchbox out of specific materials and test the strength of their lunchbox with cans of soup. This will be a STEM activity and will be tied to the book, First Day Jitters.
Technology:
- Students will become familiar with the different websites we will use in class and how to find the links on our class blog page.
Snack:
- We will stop each morning at 10:15 am to have a snack since our lunch is so late in the afternoon. (12:38 pm) Please help your 3rd grader remember to grab a snack so they will be able to continue there focus.
Homework:
- I will send home the September Reading calendar on Thursday, August 29th. This is to be kept at home and all of the nightly reading recorded on it. At the end of the month, the calendar will need to have a parent signature and total of minutes read and students need to turn it in with 5 days after the month ends. Third grade students are required to read at least 400 minutes a month which works out to be about 20 minutes nightly for 20 days a month minimum. This also goes in the grade book.
- Math Homework will be sent home on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Students need to work on all problems and try to do their best. This homework will be do the following school day (Tuesday homework due Wednesday morning) (Thursday homework due Friday mornings or Monday mornings on weeks we do not have school on Friday.
- Homework this week:
- Tuesday: 2 digit addition with carrying.
- Thursday: 2 digit subtraction with borrowing.
Specials:
- Music and PE will be meeting more than once a week. The schedule is to the right, on our class blog page. Please encourage your child to dress in appropriate clothing and shoes for the PE days.

- Thursday, October 31: School-wide book celebration. Book--Peter Pan
- Friday, November 8th: Parent Teacher Conferences (scheduled and drop in times will be determined closer to the date.
