  *Any score below 70% may do a retake assignment to improve their grade.

Reading/ELA:

• Working on Verb Tenses 
• Informational Writing unit.
• We are starting the last book in the Ralph Mouse trilogy, Ralph S. Mouse. 
• Vocabulary focus will be continued:  clarify, spare, strain, remain and exotic.
• Wow word (working with words that have prefixes and suffixes):  misconduct 

Math:

• Continuing in Topic 5 Fluently Multiply and Divide within 100.
• Monday:  Lesson 5-5:  Solve Word Problems using multiplication and division.  
• Wednesday:  Lesson 5-6:  Write Math Stories using multiplication.
• Homework will be on Monday and Wednesday evening this week.Homework is due the following morning. Five points will be added in the grade book for homework returned and completed.  Students who forget their homework can log on to enVision which is a link on the right side of this blog page. The homework that would have been on the page is on the website.  I will list the lesson number below under homework.   

Science:

• How water flows from high places down to low places.

Social Studies: 

• Map Grid and Map Index

Character Education Focus:  

• Our January focus is Fairness.

Homework:

• Math homework 
• Monday:  Lesson 5-5:  Solve Word Problems using multiplication and division.  
• Wednesday:  Lesson 5-6:  Write Math Stories using multiplication.

• Reading homework-20 minutes minimum per evening.  Put minutes on reading calendar which will be due the first week of October.  Reading homework requirement is 400 minutes per month for 100% in grade book.  Starting with the October reading calendar, students who read at least 400 minutes for the month and turn it in the first week of November will receive a free personal pizza coupon for Pizza Hut in addition to their grade.
• January Reading calendars are due by February 4th, 2019. *400 minutes for the month earns 100%.  

Valentine's Information: 

• Students will need to make a Valentine container to bring to school on Thursday, February 14th (please do not send in sooner).  
• Please make sure your child's name is visible on the container so students passing out cards can see it.  
• I will send a list of student names in an email. 
• We will pass out valentines, students can go through their containers and enjoy any treats while watching a short Charlie Brown Valentine movie.  We are not having a formal party.
• If you would like to send in treats that is fine. We would prefer healthy treats as they will most likely have plenty of candy treats from friends.  

Snow Day Information:

• In the event that school is closed for snow days exceeding 2 days, students will need to complete 4 hours to count the day as a school day.  I am sending home a snow day packet with work outlined for the four hours that would need to be separated from the packet and returned to school once school resumes.  I will send an electronic copy as well as a paper copy and will email parents to let them know when those days of school work would need to be completed.  Please let me know if you have any questions.  If we have only 1 or 2 snow days, no work from the packet would be required.  I will always email when work would be needed.  

Dates to remember:

• Monday, February 4th:  January Reading Calendar due.
• Thursday, February 14th:  Valentine's Day Party (students will need to bring a Valentine's Day container for their Valentine cards and goodies.  
• Friday, February 15th:  No School (Teacher In-service Day)
• Monday, February 18th:  No School for President's Day.
