**The spelling words are a part of homework to practice writing and spelling them aloud.

Reading and Language Arts:
  •  Article of the Day using Readworks reading program.  
  • Continuing our next class novel, Ralph S. Mouse and completing comprehension packet that accompanies the book.  There will be an open packet test at the end of the book.
  • Focusing on Main Idea.

  • Tuesday, February 27th:  Field trip to NNU to watch the Boise Philharmonic Children's Concert.
  • Friday, March 2nd:  Dr Seuss's birthday! Dress up as your favorite Dr Seuss character or wear pajamas!  Remember we don't allow mask so we can see everyone's beautiful faces! We will have a Read In in our classroom and enjoy some wonderful books!

The Week of February 20th through 23rd, 2018

·      **We are going to stay on list #10 this week because it turned out to be a difficult list for a majority of the class.  We will study the words this week and retest on Friday for those who scored below 70%.  We will start list #11 on Monday, February 26th.

Reading and Language Arts:
  •  Article of the Day using Readworks reading program.  
  • Continuing our next class novel, Ralph S. Mouse and completing comprehension packet that accompanies the book.
  • Focusing on Main Idea.  


Math:

  • Starting a new math focus on multiplication and area.

  • We are really working alot on quick recall of multiplication facts. We will be testing on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays on our multiplication facts.  As soon as a child finishes the 2's, for example, they move on to 3's and so forth.  This is not for a grade but is so important for using multiplication in all areas of math.  Practicing flashcards at home will help get those facts into long term memory.

Reading and Language Arts:
  •  Article of the Day using Readworks reading program.  
  • Starting our next class novel, Ralph S. Mouse and completing comprehension packet that accompanies the book.
  • Reading books on the high end of their reading level and completing a book journal and doing a poster of their book. This will be ongoing for the next few weeks.  Due dates for posters and presenting will be set once students start finishing their chapter book.


Math:

  • Lesson 20:  Recognize and show that equivalent fractions have the same size, though not necessarily the same shape.  
    • Lesson 20 Homework on Monday.
  • Lesson 21:  Recognize and show that equivalent fractions refer to the same point on the number line.
    • Lesson 21 Homework on Wednesday.

Dates to Remember: 
  • Valentine's Day party on Wednesday, Feb. 14th.  Students will need to make or buy a container for their valentines and treats with their name clearly displayed.  Students can address their cards with a child's name or they can just write "To my friend," and then sign their name.  Whatever they would like to do is fine.  We will celebrate at the end of the day (after Technology class 2:20 pm) and it will be very simple.  Students will pass out Valentines and then enjoy going through their goodies.  If anyone wants to send in any treats that would be great also.  
  • No School on Friday, February 16th for teacher grading/inservice work.  
  • No School on Monday, February 19th for President's Day.

  • We will finish up our Runaway Ralph packet and take our test.
  • We are starting our Article of the Day using Readworks reading program.  
  • Grammar Rule #13:  The verb in a sentence must agree with the subject of the sentence.  For example:  If the subject is singular then the verb must be singular.  Our apple tree blooms in April.
  • Grammar Rule #14:  The tense of a verb tells when an action occurs~Past, Present or Past.  For example:  am eating in the present tense, ate in the past tense and will eat in the future tense.
  • Starting our next class novel, Ralph S. Mouse and completing comprehension packet that accompanies the book.

Math:
