  • Mountain Language Packet
  • Grammar Rule #13  The verb in a sentence must agree with the subject of the sentence.  If the subject is singular, the verb must be singular.  For example:  Our apple tree blooms in April.  If the subject is plural, the verb must be plural.  For example:  Most apple trees bloom in April.
  • Parts of Speech Grammar Packet- Nouns, Verbs, Adjectives, Article Adjectives, adverbs and types of sentences. 
  • Continuing our new class book, Ralph S. Mouse  and our comprehension booklet that goes with it.

  • February Reading calendars will be due on March 3rd.  If you misplace the calendar, a note or an email will work as well. (100 points)
  • Monday and Wednesday students will do 30 minutes of IXL on Fractions.  Look for the yellow stars.
  • Reading on MyOn is always a choice and can be recorded on your reading calendar for minutes read.  

Dr. Seuss Birthday Celebration week:  It's Dr. Seuss's birthday on March 2nd and the National Read Across America Celebration as well. So we thought it would be fun to participate in the following ways:
  • Tuesday:  "Sock"ceed in Reading!  (Wear wild socks!)
  • Wednesday:  Seuss, So cool to read! (Wear sunglasses or cool hats)
  • Thursday:  Dr. Seuss's birthday!  (Dress up like Dr. Seuss or character from his books. 
  • Friday:  Curl up with a good book! (Wear Pajamas and if you have a favorite Dr. Seuss book you can bring it, too! 
  • All school dress code modesty rules apply. Those not participating will need to wear school dress code.  
  • This is what our classroom will be doing so please check your other children's classroom blogs and newsletters for information about how they will be celebrating.

  • Order pizza on Tuesday to eat pizza for lunch on Wednesday. $1 a slice for pepperoni or cheese.

  • Grammar Rule #12 A verb tells what is happening to the noun. Action verbs:  show an action.  My dog ran away.  Linking verbs:  connect the subject to a noun or an adjective that describes it.  Most common are am, is, are, was and were.  Helping verbs: come before the main verb to tell about the action.  Some are- will, has, had, have, could, would, should, do, does, and did.  (We didn't get to it last week;)

We will have a simple Valentine's Day celebration in our classroom on Tuesday, February 14th.  I am sending a note home on Monday with your child with information as well as student names.  If you would like to send in any treats to enjoy during the party that is fine as well and we have 31 students.  Students will need to decorate a container at home to hold their valentines in from their classmates with their name well displayed. Please keep it at home until the week of Valentine's.

  • Order pizza on Tuesday to eat pizza for lunch on Wednesday. $1 a slice for pepperoni or cheese.
  • Valentine's Day party on Tuesday, Feb 14th.  We have cookies, plates and juice boxes already spoken for.:)

  • Continuing class novel:  Runaway Ralph and completing comprehension and vocabulary questions that pertain to the chapters.  
Math:
  • Mountain Math packet
  • Working on time and intervals of time.
Homework:
  • Students will have paper math homework on Tuesday and Wednesday. Time intervals using number lines as well as practicing a small number of skills.
  • Reading and record on January reading calendar. Calendars are due by Friday, February 3rd.
  • Monday and Wednesday students will do 30 minutes of IXL on 3rd grade Math or 3rd grade Language Arts.  
  • Reading on MyOn is always a choice and can be recorded on your reading calendar for minutes read.  
    • I will be sending a note with your child's MyOn username and password please read it and talk with your child about it.
Book Order:
I sent a set of scholastic book orders last Monday.  Orders are due by Monday.  If you would like to order you can use the order form on the scholastic book orders and send it in to school with cash or a check to Scholastic or you can use your credit card/debit card by going to Scholastic using the link to the right and using the classroom code GWNL2.

Homework:
  • We are working with a new program called Myon which is full of books for students to read and I would like the kids to choose a book on their reading level from their Myon reading library list to read at home this week and this counts for reading homework as well.  Their username and password will be sent home on an index card.
  • Practicing math facts with flashcards. Sending home a set of facts to cut out and glue or tape onto index cards and keep at home to continue practicing.  Glue the card on the front and write the answer on the back. Use a pencil to write the answers. Do a set each night or as many as you want.  Take your time so they will be usable throughout the year. Double check your answers with your parents or multiplication table.
  • Reading calendars for December are due. (100 points).

  • IXL homework on Wednesday will be Multiplication Fluency G.9 Multiplication Tables up to 10.  
  • Reading calendars for December are due. (100 points).
Dates to Remember:
  • No pizza for elementary this week.  
  • No school on Friday, January 13th.  Parent Teacher conferences scheduled for this day.  Scheduled conference times will be between 12:00 pm and 4:00 pm and walk in/drop in conferences times from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm.  I will contact you if we need to have a scheduled conference.  If you do not get a conference request from me you can come to the open times (5-7) or request a scheduled time (12-4).  
  • We will be having every other Friday off from now through the end of the school year.  Please visit our school website to view the calendar.  There is a picture link to the right on our blog page.  Our January days off from school are:  January 13th for Parent Teacher Conferences and work day, January 16th (Martin Luther King Day) and January 27th for Teacher work day/staff training.

I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas break and are excited to start a new year!  We sure have had a lot of snow this season!!  I am looking forward to seeing the kids tomorrow and amazed that we are already half way through our third grade school year!!  We had a lot of fun with our elf, Holly, before Christmas and she has headed back to the North Pole!  Also, thank you so much for the help at the Christmas party and the supplies sent in to enjoy at our cookie decorating table!! The kids had a wonderful time thanks to all of you!!!
